Innkept works in pounds sterling. VAT is worked out on each line of a quote and added up for the total.
Currency
Every price is in pounds (GBP). If you need to quote in euros or dollars, contact us and tell us about your business.
How VAT is worked out
For each line, Innkept multiplies the line total by its VAT rate and rounds to the nearest penny. The quote's VAT is those amounts added together. For example:
Venue hire £3,500.00 × 20% £700.00
Front of house £2,800.00 × 20% £560.00
Late licence £250.00 × 20% £50.00
VAT £1,310.00
Because each line is rounded on its own, the total VAT can occasionally be a penny different from working out 20% of the subtotal in one go.
Setting VAT rates
Each product has a VAT %, which is 20 unless you change it. Common UK rates:
| Rate | Used for |
|---|---|
| 20% | Standard rate: most goods and services, including venue hire and catering. |
| 5% | Reduced rate: a short list of goods, such as domestic fuel. |
| 0% | Zero rate: some cold food sold to take away. Catering and food eaten on the premises are standard rate. |
This isn't tax advice. These are general UK rates. Catering and venue hire have their own VAT rules, so check with your accountant. Innkept doesn't check that the rate you've set is right for the item.
What guests see
The booking form and proposal show prices including VAT, with the total labelled "Total inc. VAT" and the VAT shown separately in the breakdown. That's what UK customers expect. There's no option to show prices without VAT at the moment.
VAT in your CRM and webhooks
Connections receive the quote's subtotal, VAT and total, plus each line's price and total. VAT isn't split out line by line. Developers can find the details in the webhook reference.
